I don't normally update here, so this is as good time as any.
You're aware that I've been planning to move, from my mom's house in Diboll to a friend's house 20 miles away. The plan is to keep my job in Diboll and commute while I try and find something nearer to the new place.
Or, that was the plan. Here's the fun part.
Over the past few days, I've been moving my stuff to the new place from the storage building where it's been for the past two years. In fact, I had just loaded the final carload into my Chevy station wagon today and was planning on taking it to Lona's place in the morning. But.
I started the car and it acted funny. I put it in drive (my foot on the brake), and the car continued to lurch forward. I had no brakes. When I tried to turn the wheel it wouldn't turn. No power steering.
Fluid levels were not low, so this indicates a more serious problem than that. Essentially I am screwed because my things are in my new room I'm planning to rent at my friend's house 20 miles away and I can't get there. If I can't get the car working cheaply (I can't, I assure you), then I'll have to get a U-Haul just to bring my stuff back here.
My stuff is all going to be sold anyway, that was the plan. I had taken the boxes of comics over so I could go through them and start with the eBay again.
Now I don't know what's going to happen. I may not be able to move in with Lona at all if I don't have a car, and I still have to get my things back if I don't.
I've messaged Lona about the situation and I can understand she's disappointed. She needed someone to help her with the rent and I don't know that I can do it now. I don't even know how I'm going to be getting back and forth to work from now on, and it's only three miles. This completely sucks...though I suppose I'm lucky this happened today and not tomorrow, after I'd gotten everything moved in.

Former boxing champ Gatti found dead in BrazilSAO PAULO (AP) — Former boxing champion Arturo Gatti, whose epic trilogy with Micky Ward branded him one of the most exciting fighters of his generation, was found dead in a hotel room in the posh seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas early Saturday. Police investigator Edilson Alves told The Associated Press that the body of the former junior welterweight champ was discovered in his room at the tourist resort, where Gatti had arrived on Friday with his Brazilian wife Amanda and 1-year-old son. Alves said police were investigating and it was unclear how the 37-year-old Canadian died. ...Gatti would later lose to big names like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Carlos Baldomir, but it was his three-fight series against Ward that left an indelible impression on fight fans.
The first time they met, in May 2002, the 140-pounders traded devastating blows for 10 rounds before leaving it up to the judges to decide a winner. Ward earned the mixed decision, by one point on one scorecard and two points on another, in what Ring Magazine called "Fight of the Year."
The rematch was just as brutal, with Gatti knocking Ward down in the third round with a big right. Ward not only recovered from the blow, which broke Gatti's hand, but managed to go the distance. This time, Gatti earned a clear unanimous decision.
Gatti and Ward had their rubber match at Boardwalk Hall in June 2003, and it was again called "Fight of the Year" by Ring Magazine. Ward knocked Gatti to the floor in the sixth round, but despite fighting with his right hand broken again, Gatti managed to win the decision.***** Its what got me to respect and watch boxing in the first place. My brother had been watching with the neighbor for years, but other than the highlight reel stuff I never really cared. Snapshot into a time in my life when my determination, motivation, and will to live was low... and my bro brings over a tape of Arturo “Thunder” Gatti vs "Irish" Mickey Ward the first bout. WARNING, there's blood, and there's more punishment than any person should ever experience. And STILL... neither one will budge... We (knievel, my brother and I) often joke about scottish boxing (as first seen by me in the movie braveheart) but this is epic. This was truly a massive battle of wills. These guys ended up being best of friends afterwards. Arturo, may the light protect you and the powers of the heavens shine upon your path brother... Current Mood: crushed Current Music: Gatti v Ward

Last night was a quick trip to Providence with bbbsg. Dinner at Julian's was an excellent duck breast on an interesting bread pudding with onions and greens over all, with a middling sangria. Dessert made up for the sangria -- a cardamom crème brûlée with ginger sorbet and lemon sugar crepe. Then our expected late arrival to a show, which was running later than we were, so we didn't miss any of the acts. "Lady ___" (Tracy) opened with semi-autobiographical folky funniness. The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players followed with an all-but-indescribable combination of strangers' slide collections (purchased at yard sales and such) and creative musical narrative to go with those slides, wrapped into a hybrid of the SNL Cheerleaders, Flight of the Conchordes, Rick Moranis, and the Von Trapps and Partridges. (Yes, all of those. You have to see it to believe it.) Then came the act we were there for -- HUMANWINE. I'd not seen them since their west coast wintering, having missed their epic return to The Paradise Rock Club with A Far Cry and others (150+ ice cream flavors won out), and this was worth the drive. The almost-smallest version of them I've ever seen -- Holly (lead vocals and guitar), M@ (guitar and vocals), Dilley (upright bass and vocals), and Nate (drums). M@ and Holly are always there; the other two are the remaining core of HUMANWINE. Others are valued when they're there, but these 4 are the roots, the base, the heart. If you get the chance to see this band, in *any* configuration of players, do. There's meaning to the lyrics, and power in the music, and they're Just Real. By this point it was near to midnight, and we were rapidly tiring. We decided to listen to the first song from the closing act, and then decide whether we were staying for more (probably not). They led into that song with a scream, a blitz of drums and guitar and noise ... and we made for the door. A brief hangout with M@ and Holly and Dilley, and we headed for home by way of Dunkin' Donuts. A small coffee for the ride, some free donut products (they'd been on the shelf longer than the rules say), and a cleaner, quieter bathroom break ... and back to Bostonish. I was home a bit after 2. Today, a long, slow rise. It's now about 2, and I'm about to head out to the FFF. I'll be there for at least an hour, probably longer. Still working to replace much of my stolen gear (exact replacement is impossible, since so much of it was one-of-a-kind, bought at similar shows), I have some small budget available this week. Plans for later are up-in-the-air. I'm not on the current guest list for any after-FFF parties, but that's been known to change while at the show. A pool (pocket billiards, not swimming) night with a bunch of friends who date back to high school or college is a definite option, starting around 7pm; that's an hour's drive away. I think my mood is leaning toward an after-party (optimally with a willing victim or three); or a smaller, more casual and spontaneous hang-out, conversation, possibly movie(s), cuddling and/or snuggling, etc. Your suggestions/invitations are more than welcome, and best delivered by voicemail to my home line -- seventy-eight, eighteen, eighty-four, sixty-three, eighteen -- as I may not return home before evening, but will definitely check those messages.

I've mentioned before my dreams are extremely vivid and otten (seem) very, very long. This one was no exception, I felt like I was there for every minute of it and it was very cool. I was hanging out with a RL friend, and we ran into a very cute girl ( angyllina). In the dream I didn't know her at all, but we hit it off and I ditched my friend and started hanging out with her instead. (I think it was at a mall, someplace with a lot of people and places/stores plus food). Then she tells me that she has to meet her sister, so I go with her and meet her too. Her sister turns out to be shinga, lol, and the three of us hang out and have a fantastic time, laughing and joking as we people watch and tell stories sitting in like the food court/restaurant. It was so much fun, then in the dream I walked them to their car, gave them both hugs and watched them drive off as I woke up smiling and laughing IRL. My brain wasn't done for the night either (when I woke up from that first one it was like 5 in the morning), when I fell back asleep my dream kind of continued, in it I owned this huge house and angyllina and shinga were going to live there too, Three's Company style, lol. I was helping them move in, but in the dream shinga had an asshole boyfriend who was being really jealous and was trying to be really controlling of her, (the boyfriend in the dream was my RL friend's boyfriend, who really is a controlling manipulative asshole) but she was having none of it and at the end of the dream he was being arrested while we unloaded the multiple animals from the vehicles. I don't remember exactly WHY he was being arrested, I think it had something to do with running a red light and then being a prick to the cop, but we were all happy about it regardless. Then I woke up. Yeah, so I feel very rested, and not as sick at all (thank you cold medicine), and got to be entertained all night by two of the coolest women on my friends list! Very cool. Thanks guys! I also really want that house I was living in in the dream...it was on a beach but surrounded by woods, plus up off the ground and multiple stories. What I find most amusing about those dreams is that first, angyllina is an only child, and second, both she and shinga live in Texas, but don't know each other at all! The sensation of floating through the air on the last beat of a pair of wings... It must be magical. In our myths and fantasies we have creatures, gods, and angels who look like us, but have wings. We've even imagined beasts with wings that would carry us, built machines to help us fly, and buildings so tall that we can stand atop them and feel the clean air wrap around us. Even in images of an afterlife, wings are prevalent. We see demons with wings, and winged souls sitting upon clouds, watching the earth below. We look for our own wings in our next stage of existence. We look to soar where our bodies can't go. Had we not built these things, maybe the next step for our evolution would have been to grow wings, for flight, more than anything else, has been a dream of freedom for centuries. To travel through the air, and explore the world, on the last beat of our wings. Fly. Tags: brigits_flame

I tend to move around all over the country, staying in one place or another for a matter of months, sometimes as much as a year. Yet no matter how far I go, or for how long, somehow I always tend to end up back in northern Vermont. It just suits me. I like the college town environment of Burlington, the mountains in every season, the cold, snowy weather of winter, the brilliant autumns, the relatively cool summers and the bright green of spring. I like the distinct liberal slant that a lot of towns have, the ease of slipping out of civilization and into the wilderness, the winding roads and sparkling rivers. All these things and more bring me back. Two other aspects that I'm particularly fond of, and are on my mind this evening, are the many waterholes and the casual attitude toward nudity most of the state has. I've rarely (in the States, at least) seen such a casual coexistence between clothed and nude bathers. And there are few other places where the water is so delightfully cool, clear and free of unpleasant creatures such as snapping turtles, snakes, and all manner of other unpleasant things. It's been an unusually cool, rainy summer so far, however, and I haven't been able to go out as often as I like. So when it finally cleared and warmed up today, I told my boss that I've just got to bug out a few hours early and headed over to a particularly pleasant spot in the general Montpelier region. I'm pretty much comfortable in either the family pools or the clothing optional ones. Where I end up tends to depend on my mood or my preparation. There have been times when it's just so hot and unpleasant outside that I feel like I need to find the nearest cool waterhole and jump right in and there simply isn't time to grab some shorts. A clothing optional area is perfect for that. At other times I may be feeling like just taking it easy and going in with swimming shorts on and enjoy the more festive areas where a different variety of groups might be. Because the thing is, the clothing optional holes are predominately men. I don't have a problem with that; I've seen it all before, one way or another so it makes no real difference to me. But sometimes I just want a different scenery, so to speak. So today as I was walking down a pleasantly shady path beside a rapidly rushing river looking for a particularly pleasant area to swim I was a little disappointed to find either empty beaches, areas with only a couple in their bathing suits lazily drifting through the water together in what was clearly a private moment, or a couple of men hanging out in the water or on stones wearing only their skin. I couldn't help but wish that just once, I could pass a swimming hole with an attractive young woman stepping out of the river with cool water streaming down her nude body. Or a group of such women. Or maybe just a few couples with women who matched the basic description. It happens all the time in movies but I've only rarely seen it with my own eyes and it makes me sad. Primarily because it just doesn't seem to be the right kind of world for that kind of thing. That may be the case, but I think the world is seriously lacking for it. been working 12 hour days all week...so today was the day to get shit done. went to doctor to get my light duty lifted...finally he is not very thrilled with me when I mentioned I was jogging saying "the 2 month window is the most critical point in your healing...it is weaker than a month ago...blah blah blah"...so he said "Since you are so active, I am going to get you fitted with a knee brace. Wear it as much as possible until October, and then for any sport activities for at least a year" left the clinic...saw I had a flat on my bike...so walked back up to the bike shop and bought a few tubes (and chain lube)...fixed tire and went back down to the orthopedic place by the clinic and got my knee brace... THANK GOD FOR INSURANCE!!! When they showed me the price I started to take it off...then they said that insurance will probably cover all...if not, the max I have to pay is 200. Original price is 983 dollars!!! http://www.breg.com/knee-bracing/ligament/x2k.htmlIts pretty cool looking and light...shouldn't be too bad to wear it...but not under most of my jeans (too tight). Turned in the application for the mortgage...he perused it and said it will not be a problem...and another place opened up...next door...1100 square feet...2 bedroom...for the same price!!! the outside looks the same...just 250 square feet bigger...and still has a garage. This one is bank owned...not a short sale or someone trying to make a few bucks...so I might be able to get a better bargin on this one. Going to look at it on Sunday...so we will see if it is as nice as the 1 bedroom that I want well...staying in tonight...might go see the Rev. Horton Heat tomorrow...still debating that...have too much to do around here though Current Mood: contemplative Current Music: channel surfing
