Kinda geeky today so a couple of geeky stories instead of the usual..first off, researchers in Japan have developed a 3D telephone, can you say Help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope!
Other thing, not so much geeky but really interesting to me and probably boring for most of you, The loonie cracked .85 cents this morning..
I work with a guy that used to be way up the corporate ladder (actually pretty well at the top) at RBC and he's been saying for a while they're expecting a par dollar sometime in the new year, and honestly the way it's going I think he's right. But what I really found interesting is the stuff that goes on around it. I know the feds are talking interest rate hikes, but I really think all that will do is fuel interest in the loonie to foreign investors, which would push it even higher. Plus the thing with the GDP is something that kinda took me by suprise, it's expected to grow 3.5% which kinda shocked me given our relationship with the US and that the higher canadian currency you would think would really stifle exports, but it hasn't. I'm guessing it's because of the US's huge trade defecit, they really can't go elsewhere because their dollar is just getting blasted and they aren't self sufficient enough to produce enough for themselves. That introduces a whole new wrinkle into it because I really believe we're starting to see the beginnings of an economic meltdown south of the border, which is why the US dollar is taking a beating. The question is will the US government be able to stop the freefall, it would have to mean a radical change in it's current economic policy, and what effect will it have on us up here? See told you it was boring stuff ;-)
